OptiscannerOptiScan BiomedicalHayward, California 2008 The Optiscanner system will provide continuous, accurate measurements of glucose levels in ICU patients, enabling clinicians to adopt tight glycemic monitoring protocols more easily and with less fear of severe hypoglycemia. The system will simultaneously reduce the burden on nurses to perform this labor intensive practice. The device has the potential to reduce mortality and length of stay in the ICU. The need for tight glucose control is supported by a substantial body of literature. Current methods of glycemic control place increasing demands on ICU nurses due to the labor intensiveness of glucose monitoring protocols. OptiScan came to Compass to help them get prototypes ready to demonstrate their technology at a major trade show that was only 11 weeks away. We created the casework for the product, prepared the SolidWorks CAD files for prototype parts, managed the vendors and provided units for the show in time for the show in Hawaii. In addition, we created a design for a cart system to hold the control console as well as cooling fans in time for the show.
